Practice writing ionic compound formulas using criss-cross methods.
Need to memorize certain polyatomic ions to write the formulas successfully. The list is given on the first page in your text book.

Review for the chapter test. Go over questions from section review 3 and clarify any doubts from the chapter.

Assignments for Tuesday:
Read the section IV of chapter 4 of Holt Chemistry and write a brief summary for the same. If you are unable to come to school, please do the section review on a separate piece of paper which will be accepted in lieu of concept review worksheet. In-class students will do the concept review worksheet for section IV. Due - 11/18/09.
HW: Section review 3 from Chapter 4 in the notebooks. Please do not write the questions.Due on Thursday (11/19/09).
Prepare for Chapter test on Friday (11/20/09).

Assignment for Monday ( 11/16/09)

Completion of lab activity. Students absent on Friday and today need to make up the lab whenever they come back to school.
Complete the home work sheet given on Friday. Students who were absent on Friday need to work on section reviews of sections 1 and 2 in lieu of the homework given on Friday.
Prepare for chapter 4 test on Friday.

Assignment for Friday (11/13/09)

Lab activity - Mendeleev's lab (Need to make up whenever you come in - absence note needed.)
Homework assigned: Concept review worksheets for 'How are elements organized?' and 'Tour of periodic table'.
If you are unable to come to school due to an excused absence then, please do the section reviews instead for the same sections(these are from chapter 4) from your textbook - absence note needed to be graded.

Assignment for Friday (11/06/09)

Please read the section 2 of chapter 4 from the Holt text book.
Draw an outline of the periodic table (fig.5) and label s, p, d, and f blocks in it.
Write electron configurations of the all the elements belonging to groups 1, 2, 13, 14, 15, 16,and 17. Look for the patterns and commonality. Now, answer the question as to why the blocks are named the way they are( s,p,d and f).
Hopefully the strike would end by this weekend.
